Question by claker: What kind of awning/shade structure is this?

The link points to a picture of a Lowe’s Home Improvement store. I like the cable supported awning/shade structure in front.

I want to put an awning similiar to this on the back of my house. I like it because it has no support posts below, and is only hung from above. I do not want one of those cheezy SunSetter retractable cloth things.

Just want more info on them, construction techniques, harware, materials, weight loads, etc…

Looking for the last 3 hours for info on the web, etc… HELP!

I’d go to Lowe’s and study the construction!

Alternatively, it would seem you might build a cover on a platform below, either at the right height, or plan to rais it into place. Once where you want it, cable or chain the outer part to hang from the side of the structure, and then lag bolt the edge to the house…then remove the temporary support you have under it….
