It depends on what kind you have. Attatachable to house or independent. Instructions should be in the box.
You mentioned a Sunsetter awning in another question. Is this the type you bought? The instructions should have come with it. The only thing I saw in their website was that it had to be 7 foot high (or higher) where it attaches to the house. Try going to their website for more info.
